What a client will experience are a series of light moves made over the skin or through thin clothing promoting a deep sense of relaxation which can help to restore the body’s rhythm and balance.

Frequently, the Bowen Technique has relieved even long-standing pain whether this relates to a postural imbalance, to a sports injury, to general stiffness, or pain that has become locked up in our body due to emotional trauma. Since the Bowen Technique is a holistic therapy, it works with the whole body and it can, thus, balance the lymphatic, digestive, excretory and hormonal systems as well as addressing pain and structural realignment.

A session with an adolescent or adult will be characterised by 2 minute breaks between each move/set of moves. This is crucial to give the body time to process the move before moving on to the next one. Babies and young children have less “traffic” cramming their central nervous system and so do not require the 2 minute breaks.

Because of its gentle, non invasive nature, the Bowen Technique can be very effective for babies and young children, for pregnancy in any stage, and for those who are mobility disadvantaged.

For each session, please wear soft pliable clothing, please avoid wearing jeans, jeggings or lycra.

While many medical doctors have been very interested in the Bowen Technique, much of the technique’s effect has not been scientifically tested. This has started to change. In 2017, it was scientifically proven that the Bowen Technique is very effective in relieving lower back pain (see  http://www.worldscientificnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/WSN-93-2018-81-94.pdf)

A Bowen Session

Sessions with adolescents and adults usually last about an hour, but some can last 1½ hours depending on your needs. You should definitely set aside 1 and a half hours for the first session since I will need extra time to ask you about your health history and your condition. Sessions with babies and young children will be much shorter in duration.

While the ideal situation, is for a client to lie on a massage table, for those that are unable to do this due, for example, to being heavily pregnant or wheel chair bound, the Bowen Technique can be adapted to working with people seated or even standing.

Normally, I will practice at my address but, if you have good reason to be unable to travel, I will come to your house. This will attract a surcharge for time/fuel and depends on distance.

While each body takes as long as it needs to heal, it is recommended that 3 sessions are standard to achieve lasting results.

It is important to allow your body time to takes time for bodies to respond – thus sessions need to be 7 days apart in most cases.
